Ringwood Manor Historic House Tours

Ringwood Manor

Ringwood Manor is a national historic Landmark that was donated to the State of Nj in 1938 by the Cooper & Hewitt families. The Manor is open for tours Wednesday through Sunday all year. The fully-furnished building has 51 rooms, 26 of which are seen on the guided tour. Tours run between 10am and 3pm and generally last 1 hour. There is no fee for tours and reservations for the general public are not required. Crowds of more than 10 people should schedule group tours with the historic staff. Ever wonder what all that �stuff� is placed around the grounds at Ringwood Manor? What about all those other buildings on the property? What were they Used for? If you have ever been curious about the estate at Ringwood Manor, this special tour is for you! These 2 � walking tours will take the participants around the main property at Ringwood Manor, discussing the historic objects, the planned gardens and landscape features, the out-buildings, and even the cemetery. It is advised that participants wear comfortable walking or hiking shoes, dress appropriately for the weather, and bring bug spray & sun block if necessary. Steady Rain cancels. Lecture: �Creating a Painting: the History of Ringwood Manor & the Design of its Gardens and Landscapes.�

*Please note: this event takes place at Skylands Manor Carriage House. Ringwood Manor historian, Sue Shutte, will present a power Point slide show and lecture on the history of the grounds and gardens at Ringwood Manor. After a brief outline of the history of Ringwood Manor, the program will focus primarily on the design and construction of the landscape features at Ringwood Manor by Mrs. Abram Hewitt and her daughters.� The discussion will include information on what elements were planned, designed, and created during the late 19th and early 20th centuries. Additionally, information will be provided about the historical objects placed on the grounds of the site. Event sponsored by the NJBG/Skylands Association. A great event for the family! Visitors can engage and discover 400 years of New Jersey history in one fun day. living history demonstrations depicting periods from the frontier to World War II, military encampments, music, quilt appraisal, Antique car displays, and children's activities �are held throughout the day. Professional Development credit hours for NJ teachers and achievements for cub, boy, and girl scouts are available as well. Food vendors will be available. Sponsored by the Office of Historic Sites. Book Signing with Local Authors

Kevin Olsen�s latest publication: A Great Conveniency: a Maritime History of the Passaic River, Hackensack River, and Newark Bay

Three members of the North Jersey Highlands Historical Society had books published this past year: Carol Siri Johnson, Edward Lenik, and Kevin Olsen. The public will be able to purchase their books and have the authors sign their works. Questions are always welcome. Location within Ringwood State Park to be determined. Civil War Cannon Display & Firing

Ringwood Manor will host craftsman Harold Knutsen and his reproduction Civil War Cannons. These reproduction items replicate the original artillery used by the Union during the war, which lasted between 1861 and 1865. Harold will have the cannons on display to the visiting public and will be explaining how he crafted the objects, what specific cannons they are reproductions of, and how they were used during the war. He will also be firing the weapons twice during the day: once at 12 noon and again at 2 p.m. The public is invited to visit the site and see these powerful weapons in action.

Ringwood Manor�s 10th Annual Declaration of Independence Reading & Celebration

�We hold these truths to be self-evident, that all men are

created equal�

A great Family Event! Join us as we celebrate our nation�s 233rd birthday by reenacting a traditional reading of the declaration of independence. Reenactors help to create a lively 18th century town atmosphere. Activities include: Colonial Games, Colonial Crafters, drilling with the Militia, Sign your own Declaration of Independence, Revolutionary War map making, Colonial Dancing, and blacksmith shop demonstrations. Event begins at 1:00pm; Declaration of Independence is Read at 2:30pm. Historic House tours will be available in the morning. Free watermelon for visitors! No cost for event, $5 per car parking fee to enter park. Sponsored by the North Jersey Highlands Historical Society and Ringwood State Park. Participants in this year�s event include: NJ Militia � Heard�s Brigade, The Department of the Geographer to the Army, Friends of Long Pond Ironworks, the 5th NJ Regiment, the 35th Regimental Society, the North River Colonial English Dancers, and various individual reenactors and volunteers.

29th Annual Ramapough Lenape Nation Powwow

Join the Ramapough Lenape Nation Celebrating their traditions and heritage on Sally�s Field. There will be Native American competition Dancing, drumming, Singing, Foods, Crafts, Artisans, & exhibits. Featuring the Spirit of the mountain drum Group and Choctaw Dancers. Live music hour immediately following the close of the powwow on Saturday. 3nd Annual Royal Sussex Regimental Society Victorian Field Day & Tactical

Waiting for orders

Ringwood Manor will host British Victorian living history groups, the 35th Royal Sussex Regiment, 57th Middlesex Regiment, and the 5th Northumberland Fusiliers Regiment. The British Victorian living history day will feature military skirmishes, encampments, & tactical demonstrations, as well as demonstrations of civilian life during the time. The Royal Sussex group represents the Regiment of British soldiers that fought during the 1881-1882 Egyptian Campaign and the 1884-1885 Nile Expedition. They help to interpret the British Empire of the late 19th century under the rule of Queen Victoria. Skirmishes between the British and the Boers will take place at 12 noon, 2 pm, and 4pm.

Ringwood Manor will be open to the public for tours. No Charge for Event; $5 per car parking fee to enter park. Click on Event Name for link to more information on the 35th Royal Sussex and a timeline of activities for the day and a map of the area being utilized by the reenactors.

A special evening opportunity to meet the inhabitants of Ringwood Manor. Visit the Manor and its grounds with master storytellers Bert Prol and Annie Callan Darling to hear the legends and meet the personalities of Ringwood�s past. Advance Payment & Registration are Required. Groups are limited to 20 people. Please note: We will Begin accepting reservations for Enchanted Evening Tours on Wednesday, August 26th. Please do not contact us before that date to make reservations.

Ringwood Manor�s 34th �Annual Victorian Christmas Celebration

Dining Room at Christmas

Join the Women�s Club of West Milford, the Ringwood Manor Citizen Advisory Committee, and Ringwood State Park Staff in celebrating the 34th Annual Victorian Christmas at Ringwood Manor. Tour the Manor, decorated in authentic 19th century holiday decor, with guides in period costumes leading you from room to room. Craft vendors will have hand-made items available- get that perfect last-minute gift!

Victorian Coffee Shop will be open and serving refreshments. $7 for adults, $6 for seniors, $3 for children.
